On April 14, 2020, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit invalidated the claims of Ericsson's important patents against TCL Communication, wiping out the $110 million in damages that Ericsson had received in the first instance.
From 2015 till now, the case lasted for 5 years. It was a thrilling experience. Ericsson initially sued with five patents, but TCL Communication successfully invalidated four of them through IPR proceedings, leaving only one patent, US7149510, for further litigation. Despite the initial Middle Eastern Texas District Court’s verdict of up to $110 million compensation, Purplevine IP’s litigation management team, corporate team, and joint efforts from Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, achieve a significant victory in the second trial of the case.
